Village Homestay

Two to four days in a working household, well off any trekking route.

Middle Hills · Central Nepal

Most of Nepal is not on a trekking route. A homestay puts you in a working household in the middle hills — you will cut fodder, learn to make dal bhat properly, and sleep in a house where the day starts at five because the buffalo says so. The money goes to the family directly, and the trip is capped at six guests so a village is never outnumbered.

What the days look like

There is no itinerary, which is the point. You get up when the household does, help with whatever the season demands, walk in the afternoon if you want to, and eat twice a day the way the family eats.

Good to know

  • Squat toilets and bucket washing — comfortable, but not a hotel
  • Vegetarian by default; meat appears on festival days
  • A few words of Nepali go a very long way, and we will teach you them on the drive
  • Bring a head torch: the power is not reliable and nobody minds
