Pokhara is where the Annapurnas come down to meet you. Machhapuchhre stands over Phewa lake close enough to feel unreasonable, and everything worth seeing is reachable by boat, by car or by a twenty-minute walk — which makes this the trip for anyone travelling with children, with knees that have opinions, or with only a weekend.
How the two days go
- Day 1 — Arrive, row out on Phewa, walk up to the World Peace Pagoda for sunset
- Day 2 — Sarangkot before dawn for the Annapurna sunrise, Davis Falls and the Gupteshwor cave, afternoon free

Good to know
- Sarangkot means a 04:45 start — the sunrise is the whole point
- Paragliding is bookable on the second morning if the wind cooperates
- The lake is calmest early; afternoon rowing is a workout, not a rest
