Chitwan is the other Nepal: flat, hot, and green in a way the mountains never are. One-horned rhino are close to common here, gharial bask on the Rapti sandbars, and tiger are present but rarely generous. Three days is what it takes to see the park properly by canoe, jeep and on foot — the last of which is the one people remember.
How the three days go
- Day 1 — Drive or fly in, Tharu village walk, sunset over the Rapti
- Day 2 — Dawn canoe downriver, jungle walk, afternoon jeep safari
- Day 3 — Early bird walk, elephant breeding centre, return transfer
Good to know
- Neutral colours only on walking safaris — no white, no bright red
- We do not offer elephant-back safaris, and will explain why if you ask
- The park closes to visitors during the monsoon; June to September is not bookable
- Malaria risk is low but non-zero — talk to your doctor before you travel
